Product Types Allowed to Cross the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge
The classification of loads that will pass through the bridge is determined in accordance with the ADR Manual, the Waste Management Regulation, and the legislation of the Ulaştırma Hizmetleri Düzenleme Genel Müdürlüğü (General Directorate of Transport Services Regulation).
- All vehicles, whether empty or loaded, carrying hazardous or non-hazardous chemical materials are required to stop at the Chemical Control Points located in both directions and undergo document inspection.
- Substances and wastes defined as “hazardous” under the ADR Manual and the Waste Management Regulation may cross the bridge under convoy application.
- However, certain substances (e.g., UN 1203 Gasoline, UN 1005 Anhydrous Ammonia, UN 1072 Oxygen) are not included in the convoy application. These vehicles are turned back at the last exits after the control points and are not permitted to cross the bridge.
Substances Not Permitted to Cross the Bridge
- ADR Class 1 Explosives:
(Only loads classified under compatibility group 1.4S may cross in convoy, provided that product and vehicle information is reported one day in advance by calling the 161 hotline.)
- ADR Class 2 Gases:
- 2.1 Flammable Gases
- 2.3 Toxic Gases
- Oxidizing Gases classified under Class 5.1
- ADR Class 7 Radioactive Materials:
Bridge crossing is permitted only with a special permit issued by the Türkiye Energy, Nuclear and Mineral Research Authority.
THINGS TO CONSIDER
- ADR 8.1.3: Appropriate hazard warning signs and orange plates must be present on the vehicle.
- ADR 8.1.4: Fire-fighting equipment required for the vehicle must be available on board.
- ADR 8.1.5: Various equipment and personal protective equipment must be carried on the vehicle.
- At least 30 minutes prior to convoy passage, the vehicle must be present at the Chemical Control Point for document inspection.
- Attempts of unauthorized passage made without stopping at the Chemical Control Point shall result in a penalty of ten (10) times the toll fee and vehicle impoundment.
- For over-dimensional loads, obtaining permission from the Karayolları Genel Müdürlüğü (General Directorate of Highways) is also mandatory.

Convoy Process
The passage of vehicles carrying dangerous goods across the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge is carried out through a convoy system.
Weekdays: 3 times
Weekends and public holidays: 2 times
→ Passages are carried out under the escort of a fire service tow truck and a convoy control vehicle. The convoy operation is conducted through the Hazardous Materials Control Points located on the Asian and European sides.
- The convoy speed is fixed at 50 km/h, and the vehicle following distance is 50 meters.
- Legal action is applied against vehicles that disrupt the convoy order.
No convoy crossings are carried out at 21:00 / 21:30 on weekends and public holidays.
